No Shortcut!” – Chekwas Okorie Reveals Conditions For Presidential Hopefuls Seeking Igbo Backing
Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chekwas Okorie, has said that any presidential candidate seeking the support of the Igbo nation must be willing to sign an agreement guaranteeing democratic dividends for the region.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Okorie, however, stressed that it is still too early for the South East to endorse any aspirant since political parties have yet to produce their presidential candidates.
Speaking on Wednesday after the inauguration of the Igbo Agenda Dialogue (IAD), Okorie explained that any candidate the Igbos choose to support will be bound by a memorandum of understanding (MoU) outlining the benefits the region should expect from their administration.
“The issue of where we stand ahead of 2027 is premature. The political parties have not even produced their candidates. And when they do, you will find in the communique that we will subject those we support to a memorandum of understanding on what they will do for the Igbo nation.
“What is more important to us is to wake up the sleeping giant in us. Even if our son is the presidential candidate, he will sign the MoU,” Okorie stated.
While presenting the communique jointly signed by the Executive Secretary, Jonathan Elendu, Okorie emphasized that the IAD is not a rival or parallel body to Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, but rather a complementary platform. According to him, the forum is dedicated to formulating a clear and binding political roadmap for the Igbo people in Nigeria.
The meeting also resolved to work towards convening a comprehensive Igbo Political Summit in Enugu on a date to be announced later.
