In his speech, the President expressed gratitude to God and pride in the growth of the APC since its formation in 2013, while also conveying optimism about Nigeria’s future despite existing challenges.
He described the convention as more than just a gathering, calling it a crucial moment for strengthening unity, renewing commitment, and reinforcing the ideals that bind party members together. Speaking on the theme, “Unity in Progress: Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Tinubu stressed that national progress can only be achieved through unity.
Reflecting on the party’s origins, he noted that its formation was driven by a collective desire to reposition Nigeria and improve governance, adding that the APC remains committed to democracy, development, and inclusive leadership.
Tinubu paid tribute to late party leaders, including former President Muhammadu Buhari, and urged members to uphold the vision of the party’s founding figures by prioritizing unity over personal ambition.
He cautioned against internal divisions, emphasizing that political parties often weaken when personal interests overshadow collective goals. According to him, the convention should send a clear message that the APC remains strong, united, and forward-looking.
The President also clarified that the party does not support a one-party system, noting that a strong opposition is vital for democratic growth. However, he criticized persistent attacks on the Electoral Act 2026, describing them as unhelpful to national development.
Highlighting his administration’s achievements, Tinubu pointed to progress in infrastructure development, economic reforms, social investment programmes, and national security efforts. He noted improvements in key economic indicators, including declining inflation, increased investor confidence, and growth in trade and the stock market.
He acknowledged ongoing challenges, particularly in the power sector, but assured that measures are being implemented to address them, including plans to strengthen electricity infrastructure.
Addressing young people, Tinubu encouraged greater participation in politics and nation-building, describing them as critical to Nigeria’s future. He also called for increased inclusion of women in leadership, stressing their importance to national development.
He urged party members and delegates to conduct themselves responsibly throughout the convention, maintaining unity regardless of outcomes, and ensuring that the party emerges stronger.
Tinubu concluded by appreciating party leaders, governors, and organisers for their roles in the convention’s success, while charging newly elected officials to lead with integrity, fairness, and dedication to the party’s ideals. He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the APC and advancing Nigeria’s progress.
