The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State is calling on the elites and prosperous individuals to lend a helping hand to those in need. The Chairman of Rivers APC Caretaker Committee, Chief Tony Okocha, emphasized this message during a visit to the ‘Home for the Elderly’ and the ‘New Generation Vision Orphanage’ in Port Harcourt. Okocha expressed, “We are in the administration of Tinubu, known worldwide for his compassion. This ethos has trickled down to us as leaders of the APC in the state.” He highlighted that the donations were part of their commitment to sharing resources with indigent homes, showcasing compassion for the less privileged.
“As leaders, we need to demonstrate that a government can be compassionate towards the less privileged. If given the opportunity to govern the state, we would strive to do better,” Okocha added. Serving as the Rivers State representative on the management board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, he urged individuals and corporate organizations to consistently offer support to those in need.
Encouraging the affluent citizens, Okocha emphasized the importance of extending goodwill, especially to the elderly who may struggle to fend for themselves. “Those in the elderly home can barely walk, and they depend on the goodwill extended to them by people. Life is about giving to others, and anyone who has the means should extend their generosity,” he stated.
The donated items to the centers included bags of rice, cartons of noodles, toiletries, and an unspecified amount of cash, demonstrating the party’s commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of the less privileged.
