Earlier reports from DAILY POST indicated that 27 lawmakers loyal to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike restricted Governor Siminalayi Fubara from approving or authorizing any spending from the state’s consolidated revenue fund. This action followed the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum given to the governor to re-present the 2024 budget to the House.
In response, NVRL, through a statement from its convener, Johnson Babatunde, questioned how a budget signed in December 2023 could be re-presented now. The group stated, “We consider the actions of the former lawmakers loyal to Minister Wike as illegal, null, and void.”
NVRL clarified that Governor Fubara had signed the N800 billion budget into law in December 2023 after it was passed by lawmakers led by former Speaker Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie.
