Ruth Kadiri Sounds The Alarm As Fake Products Flood Nigerian Market
Nollywood actress Ruth Kadiri has raised concerns over the circulation of fake and potentially harmful products in Nigeria, urging the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to take urgent steps to address the situation.
Kadiri expressed her concerns in a video message shared on Instagram, where she warned Nigerians about the potential dangers posed by poorly produced, contaminated and counterfeit products.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the actress noted that consumers often purchase products believing they are safe, only to discover that some may pose serious risks to their health. She particularly expressed concern about counterfeit medications being sold to people who depend on pharmacies for treatment.
“Every day, we buy different products believing they are safe, but sadly, some are poorly produced, contaminated, harmful and mostly fake. This is a threat to human life,” she said.
Kadiri also raised concerns about reports linking fake products to serious health complications among children. She further shared a personal experience involving garlic she purchased, claiming that the product changed colour after she blended it.
The actress called on Nigerians to speak out whenever they notice suspicious or potentially fake products being manufactured or sold within their communities.
She stressed that the problem should not be viewed solely as an issue affecting consumers, arguing that counterfeit products are allegedly produced locally and can have devastating consequences for Nigerians.
“It’s not just a buying problem, it is a ‘we’ problem. Most of these products are produced in our country by our people, destroying the lives and health of our people, regardless of what they have to lose as long as they make money,” Kadiri added.
She urged Nigerians not to ignore the issue, noting that anyone could potentially become a victim of counterfeit products. Kadiri also appealed to NAFDAC to intensify efforts to safeguard the health and wellbeing of citizens.
