Zidane Speaks Out As Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal Crisis Deepens

Former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has urged Portugal to properly recognise Cristiano Ronaldo’s immense contribution to the national team and football as controversy continues to surround the veteran forward and head coach Jorge Jesus.

According to reports, Ronaldo became embroiled in a dispute with Jesus and subsequently left Portugal’s training camp following comments made by the coach during a press conference ahead of the team’s UEFA Nations League victory over Denmark.

Speaking ahead of France’s Nations League encounter with Belgium, Zidane praised Ronaldo’s influence during their time together at Real Madrid and stressed that the Portuguese star deserves considerable respect for his achievements.

Zidane, who currently manages France, credited Ronaldo with playing a significant role in the success they enjoyed at Real Madrid, where they won one LaLiga title and three consecutive Champions League trophies.

“Cristiano Ronaldo made me win incredible trophies. Hats off to you, Cris. We must salute his great career the right way. I was lucky to have him with me. I have a lot of respect for all my players and especially for Cristiano,” Zidane said.

Ronaldo’s departure from the Portugal camp means he will miss the team’s final Nations League fixture against Norway. The development has added further attention to the reported disagreement between the five-time Ballon d’Or winner and Jesus.

Zidane’s comments have meanwhile highlighted Ronaldo’s longstanding impact on Portuguese football and his contribution to the country’s success on the international stage.
