Oando Plc, a leading indigenous energy firm, has confirmed that its pipelines in Bayelsa State were targeted in three separate vandalism attacks over the past week, as reported by Reuters on Saturday.
The assaults impacted two major infrastructure assets: the 18-inch Tebidaba-Brass crude oil pipeline in Brass Local Government Area and the 24-inch Ogboinbiri-Obiobi gas pipeline in Southern Ijaw District. These pipelines are critical to Oando’s operations, especially following its recent acquisition of the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) from Eni.
In swift response, Oando activated its emergency response protocol, dispatching leak repair teams to the affected sites to contain the damage and prevent escalation. The company also announced it is working in coordination with relevant regulatory agencies to launch a Joint Investigation Visit (JIV) — a standard procedure involving operators, regulators, and local communities to assess the source, volume, and impact of oil and gas leaks.
Oando assured that full-scale repairs would commence immediately after the JIV, with the aim of restoring normal operations as soon as possible.
