Sallah Tragedy: 9 Died, 78 Wounded In 13 Seperate Road Crashes

During the initial three days of its special Sallah operation, the command reported that 78 individuals suffered injuries of varying severity in collisions involving 21 vehicles and 128 people. Emergency services promptly transported them to hospitals across the zone. Additionally, 41 other individuals were rescued unharmed during this period.

Acting Zonal Commanding Officer, Leye Adegboyega, disclosed these details in a statement from Osogbo, outlining the deployment of 3,018 personnel, 57 patrol vehicles, five ambulances, and two heavy-duty tow trucks. The command focused on covering approximately 65 major routes daily across the zone to enhance visibility and reduce speed-related accidents. Standby rescue teams were strategically positioned across all commands to swiftly respond to distress calls.

The statement emphasized the ongoing 2024 Eid El Kabir Sallah Special Patrol Operation, scheduled from June 14 to June 21, 2024 nationwide. Zone RS11 Osogbo, comprising Osun, Ondo, and Oyo states, aligned its efforts with the operation’s objectives: ensuring smooth traffic flow, minimizing road accidents, providing prompt crash rescue services, and timely clearing of road obstructions during and after the Sallah festivities across the three states.
