Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has launched the “Eko Cares” Initiative, a social intervention program aimed at easing the economic burden on residents in the wake of subsidy removal.

The inaugural program targets 300,000 households spread across 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas in the state.At the launch event held at Lagos House,

Alausa, Ikeja, dignitaries including Deputy Governor Dr. Femi Hamzat, Chief of Staff Tayo Ayinde, Head of Service Bode Agoro, and various stakeholders were present.Over 500,000 households are set to receive essential food items such as rice, garri, beans, and tomatoes as part of the initiative.Governor Sanwo-Olu has appointed a non-partisan Special Dispensation Advisory Council comprising eminent Nigerians to oversee the program’s implementation.

Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, hailed the initiative as a testament to Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to fulfilling promises made to the people.”Eko Cares” includes the “Ounje Eko” initiative, which offers discounted food items at Sunday Markets, further demonstrating the government’s dedication to alleviating the hardship faced by vulnerable citizens.
