Former Senate President Abubakar Bukola Saraki has criticized Senate President Godswill Akpabio for allegedly politicizing and downplaying the serious allegations leveled against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement issued by his media aide, Yusuph Olaniyonu, Saraki refuted Akpabio’s claim that calls for a transparent investigation were a scheme to unseat him due to his Niger Delta origin.

“Akpabio should carefully read my March 1, 2025, statement. At no point did I suggest his resignation. My call was for him to uphold the integrity of the Senate by ensuring a fair and transparent investigation that leaves no room for doubt,” Saraki stated.

He accused Akpabio of deflecting from the real issues by introducing ethnic and political sentiments.

“The Senate President’s remarks to certain youth leaders falsely imply that people from Kwara and Adamawa want him out of office because he is from the Niger Delta. This is nothing but cheap politics and a distortion of the facts,” he asserted.

Saraki: Open Investigation Is Crucial

Saraki stressed that the allegations brought by Akpoti-Uduaghan—sexual harassment, gender discrimination, and abuse of office—should not be ignored.

“This is not about whether Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s claims are true or false. It is about ensuring the National Assembly does not appear to be shielding powerful figures accused of serious misconduct,” he emphasized.

He also noted that the Senate’s credibility depends on transparency and accountability, citing constitutional provisions, Senate rules, and legislative precedents that outline procedures for handling such sensitive cases.

‘This Is Beyond Party Politics’

Dismissing suggestions of political bias, Saraki insisted his stance was not influenced by party affiliation or regional considerations.

“This is not about PDP or APC. It is not about South-South or North Central. It is about doing the right thing and protecting the integrity of the Senate,” he maintained.

He further urged Akpabio to avoid using ethnic and regional sentiments as a shield, warning that such tactics could damage both his reputation and the credibility of the National Assembly.

‘Sexual Harassment Allegations Deserve Serious Attention’

Saraki concluded by emphasizing the need to treat cases of sexual harassment and gender discrimination with the gravity they deserve, rather than allowing them to be trivialized for political reasons.
