Scandal Erupts: Kano Governor Sends Aides Packing Over Drug Syndicate Bail Plot

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has ordered the immediate dismissal of two Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) after investigative panels found them guilty in separate cases of misconduct.

The announcement was made on Saturday by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim.

According to the statement, Abubakar Umar Sharada, Senior Special Assistant on Political Mobilization, was removed from office after a Special Investigative Committee found him culpable in facilitating the bail of a notorious drug baron, Sulaiman Aminu Danwawu. The committee confirmed Sharada’s direct involvement through his own testimony.

A dismissal letter issued Friday directed Sharada to return all government property in his possession to the Permanent Secretary, Research, Evaluation and Political Affairs (REPA), Office of the SSG, by close of business on Monday, August 11, 2025. He was further warned against presenting himself as a government official under the current administration.

Similarly, Tasiu Adamu Al’amin Roba, Senior Special Assistant, Cabinet Office, was sacked after his arrest in connection with the illegal rebagging of palliative grains in Sharada in 2024. He is currently facing trial on charges of theft and criminal conspiracy for allegedly diverting public assets. Roba has also been instructed to return all government property, including his ID card, by August 11, 2025, and is barred from posing as a government official.

In contrast, Hon. Musa Ado Tsamiya, Special Adviser on Drainages, was cleared of wrongdoing by an investigative panel, which affirmed his innocence.

Governor Yusuf reiterated his administration’s zero tolerance for corruption, stressing his commitment to discipline, transparency, and integrity, while warning public officials to maintain the highest ethical standards both in and out of office.
