Scandalous Tweet: El-Rufai’s Son Promises More Trouble For Southern Kaduna

The comment was made in response to a post from an X user, @qykali, who had criticized him for calling President Bola Tinubu “Pablo” and accused his father of overseeing ethnic violence in Southern Kaduna during his tenure. In his response, Bashir wrote: “It is your stupid mother that is an elephant. And Southern Kaduna residents will keep seeing sheghe (trouble or suffering) if they continue to attack indigenous Fulani herdsmen. Oloshi.”
The use of the Hausa slang “sheghe,” which refers to suffering or serious consequences, has drawn heavy condemnation. Many have accused Bashir of inciting violence against communities that have historically been victims of deadly attacks by suspected herdsmen.
This incident comes shortly after Nasir El-Rufai’s defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP). In his resignation letter, dated March 10, 2025, El-Rufai criticized the APC for abandoning its founding principles and failing to address internal problems. “Recent developments show that those currently in control of the APC have no desire to address the party’s unhealthy situation,” he wrote.
