Panford Mweetwa, recently transferred from Nsanjika Day Secondary School to Maguya, left behind a written note expressing his frustration, stating ‘he had toiled hard but had nothing to show for his efforts,’ and detailing instructions on how his assets should be distributed.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at Mwami turn off. Eastern Province Police Deputy Commanding Officer Stephen Mayoko confirmed the incident to the media on Friday, July 5. Mayoko explained that Mweetwa informed his wife he was heading to Chipata town but was discovered unconscious around 10 p.m.

He was initially taken to Katandala clinic for emergency treatment but was later transferred to another hospital for admission. During treatment, Mweetwa, able to communicate, disclosed consuming a lethal substance to end his life. Sadly, he passed away the same day.

The body remains in the mortuary pending burial arrangements.”
