SDP Chairman Gabam: Tinubu’s Cabinet Reshuffle Just Lip ServiceShehu Gabam, the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s recent cabinet reshuffle, calling it mere lip service to the Nigerian public’s demand for meaningful governmental improvement. This criticism follows the president’s decision to dismiss five ministers and appoint seven new ones in an effort to revitalize his administration.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The reshuffle, announced after a weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, also included the merging of several ministries as part of a broader administrative reform. However, Gabam argues that these changes do not address the structural reforms necessary to tackle the nation’s pressing challenges.

He urged President Tinubu to focus on transforming key sectors that directly affect the socio-economic well-being of Nigerians, rather than making superficial adjustments. Gabam stated, “Merging ministries or removing a few ministers will not lead to significant change. He needs to prioritize strategic sectors that require immediate attention.”

He continued, “Our consistent advice is to inject capacity into this government. I believe 75 percent of this cabinet should be replaced. The individuals around Tinubu cannot effectively support his administration. There’s no point in pretending otherwise.”

Gabam highlighted the economic challenges, criticizing draconian tax policies amid widespread poverty, unemployment, and food shortages. He remarked that even the Minister of Agriculture is ineffective and suggested decentralizing the ministry to collaborate more closely with state governments.

Regarding health issues, he noted the lack of new referral hospitals in Nigeria, despite the country’s status as Africa’s giant. “To me, this is just lip service. As I said, 75 percent of this cabinet is underperforming, and competent individuals must be brought in, regardless of their political affiliations. As President, Tinubu’s primary responsibility is to improve the living standards and welfare of Nigerians.
