Seven Key Accomplishments Of John Owan Enoh As Nigeria’s Former Sports MinisterJohn Owan Enoh has officially transitioned from the Ministry of Sports to the Ministry of Trade, Investment, and Industry following President Ahmed Tinubu’s cabinet reshuffle announced on October 23. It’s important to note that President Tinubu has transferred the responsibilities of the Ministry of Sports Development to the National Sports Commission (NSC), meaning Dikko will hold the title of Director-General rather than Minister.

Since his appointment as Nigeria’s Minister of Sports Development in August 2023, Enoh has achieved several notable milestones:

1.All African Games Success: Under his leadership, Nigeria secured an impressive 2nd place finish, earning 121 medals among 52 competing nations.

2.Funding for AFCON 2024: Enoh played a pivotal role in resolving a financial crisis that threatened Nigeria’s participation in the tournament, helping to elevate the FIFA rankings from 42nd to 28th globally. The Super Eagles also finished second in the tournament, marking their best performance since winning the title in 2013.

3.Six-Point Agenda: He introduced the WAIFAR roadmap, which focuses on athlete welfare, activating sports business opportunities, and developing infrastructure to revitalize Nigerian sports and support systems for athletes.

4.Financial Transparency: Enoh has ensured timely disbursement of allowances and bonuses, fostering trust and accountability within the sports community.

5.Health and Safety: Prioritizing athletes’ health, he has responded promptly to medical emergencies and initiated an insurance scheme for their protection.

6.Welfare System: As part of his six-point agenda, he has worked on establishing a comprehensive welfare system for both active and retired athletes, including an annual platform to recognize their achievements.

7.Debt Clearance: Enoh facilitated the clearance of over ₦12 billion in debts owed to sports federations, significantly enhancing the financial stability of athletes.
