In a significant political development, the zonal chairpersons of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) across the three senatorial districts in Kogi State, together with the party’s local government chairpersons spanning all 21 local government areas, formally announced their departure from the party to join the ranks of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The decision was unveiled during a public event held at the Government House in Lokoja.
At the gathering, the SDP executives articulated their rationale for aligning with the ruling APC, citing the prioritization of the state’s ongoing development and the well-being of its residents over any other considerations.

In acknowledging the governor’s achievements, Isah remarked, “We are delighted about this occasion. Even during our time in the opposition, we recognized your significant contributions to the state.
The infrastructural advancements are undeniable, Your Excellency. We have collectively chosen to align with the APC to bolster ongoing state development. We commit our unwavering support to secure victory for the APC candidate in the gubernatorial election.”
Isah praised Governor Yahaya Bello’s commendable strides in sectors such as healthcare, education, road infrastructure, and agriculture throughout his seven-year tenure.
The former SDP zonal chairman, now a former SDP leader, assured Governor Bello of the SDP chairpersons’ commitment to the Kogi Agenda through the APC’s gubernatorial candidate, Ahmed Usman Ododo.
Echoing similar sentiments, Zubairu Ibrahim, the acting chairman of SDP for Kogi Central Senatorial District, lauded the governor for his dedication to infrastructural development and, notably, for his effective efforts in enhancing security and preserving peace in the state.
Ibrahim emphasized that the state’s populace currently enjoys enhanced security and tranquility, a stark contrast to previous times. He asserted that the well-intentioned citizens of Kogi would not compromise these gains for political considerations.
Governor Bello welcomed the defectors and lauded their courageous step in joining the APC’s ranks. He expressed his commitment to an inclusive governance approach, one that offers equal opportunities to both long-standing and new members within the APC.
