He contended that even the declared winner of the Bayelsa election, Governor Douye Diri, expressed dissatisfaction with the process.
Highlighting concerns beyond Kogi State, Adebayo cited the instance in Bayelsa where the governor acknowledged the boycott or bypassing of BVAS in some areas. Expressing reservations about the election process, he emphasized the need for INEC’s attention.
While expressing respect for INEC as an electoral body, Adebayo underscored his primary concern with the process employed to declare the winner in the Kogi polls.
In an interview with The Sun, he disclosed attempts to alert the returning officer about discrepancies, only to face shutdowns and threats.
Adebayo clarified that his criticism was not directed at the entirety of INEC but rather focused on the specific procedures followed in determining the outcome of the Kogi State elections.
Despite efforts to caution INEC about issues such as the voters’ register and staff concerns, he claimed that their warnings were disregarded.
Additionally, Adebayo alleged that during the election, they raised concerns about over voting and fictitious numbers, but the Returning Officer seemed uninterested, even threatening to remove their agent.
A formal communication was sent to INEC detailing the events and outlining legal requirements for a review, but as of now, INEC has not responded.
