Security Alert Triggers Major Senate Shake-Up: Full Committee Roster Revealed

Announced by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the restructuring affects several high-profile committees such as National Security and Intelligence, National Planning, Air Force, and Livestock and Animal Husbandry.

This development comes after the dissolution of the National Security and Intelligence Committee, as well as the Air Force Committee, on November 26, following criticism from Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele over their inadequate oversight amid worsening insecurity.

The changes represent one of the most notable committee reforms since the 10th Senate was inaugurated, aimed at improving legislative supervision as budget defense and intense policy review take center stage.

Below are the new committee leadership assignments:

• National Security and Intelligence will now be chaired by Senator Yahaya Abdullahi (Kebbi), who previously led the National Planning Committee.

• Livestock and Animal Husbandry is now headed by Senator Shehu Buba (Bauchi), who has been redeployed from his former role as Chairman of National Security and Intelligence.

• National Planning will be chaired by Senator Mustafa Musa (Yobe), succeeding Senator Abdullahi.

• Air Force leadership goes to Senator Osita Ngwu (Enugu – Minority Whip), formerly the Deputy Chairman of the same committee.
