In a statement issued by Commissioner of Police Mohammed Umar Abba and the Police Public Relations Officer Yemisi Opalola, the police assured the public that robust security measures are in place for the festival.

“The Osun State Police Command is committed to ensuring a crime-free environment during this year’s Osun-Osogbo festival,” the statement said. “Given the influx of tourists and the numerous traditional activities planned, we have implemented extensive security arrangements to ensure the festival is celebrated peacefully.”

The police also used the statement to alert the public about the potential threat posed by cultists planning activities for August 8. They urged these groups to abandon their plans, emphasizing that security forces are closely monitoring their activities.

“The Command, along with other security agencies and Civilian JTF, will not tolerate any unlawful gatherings or actions that could threaten the peace of the state,” the statement continued. “We caution against any activities that could lead to violence or property damage.”

Residents are advised to remain vigilant, report any suspicious activities, and ensure they adhere to the law. The police have also called on parents and guardians to monitor their children and discourage any involvement in illegal activities.
