According to DAILY POST, the victims’ boat capsized in a river during their flight from the bandits.
A local resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said that the bandits attacked the village around 1:00 pm last Sunday. The assailants, armed with sophisticated weapons and riding motorcycles, prompted villagers to flee for their safety.
The overcrowded boat overturned on the Birnin Magaji River, leading to the drowning of at least 20 villagers. Recovery efforts have so far yielded five bodies from Falale River, four from Birnin Magaji River, and three from Gadar Gummi River.
The bandits also targeted other communities in Gummi Local Government Area, including Kwammaka, Kwammaka Jibi, Kwammaka Mai Katsina, Kallin, and Kazura villages.
As of now, the police have not released an official statement regarding the incident.
