Security Lapses Exposed: Labour Party Agent Attacked In Broad Daylight At Lagos Polling Unit
Tension flared on Saturday at Polling Unit 027, located at Yaya Abatan, Ogba, in Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area of Lagos State, after loyalists of the All Progressives Congress (APC) allegedly assaulted a Labour Party (LP) agent, Spencer Dominic, during the local government elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The confrontation reportedly occurred shortly before APC’s chairmanship candidate, Usman Akanbi Hamzat, arrived to cast his vote.
According to witnesses, the altercation began when Dominic positioned himself behind electoral officials in a bid to observe and verify voter identities. His presence was opposed by some APC supporters, who demanded that he vacate the area. When he refused, the situation escalated — the LP agent was dragged, slapped, and attacked in the presence of security operatives who allegedly did not intervene.
The tension was eventually brought under control by bystanders who stepped in to calm the scene.
Speaking after the incident, Spencer Dominic defended his actions, stating:
“I was behind the electoral officers, trying to verify voter cards. When the chairman came and asked me to move, I declined. I insisted on staying to verify the process — then APC supporters began beating me.”
In response, APC chieftain Gbenga Adebowale justified the confrontation, accusing Dominic of breaching polling unit protocols.
“The council chairman has the right to join the queue without being challenged. An agent questioning him for a voter card is unacceptable. Agents aren’t permitted to stand behind electoral officers — that position alone can spark unrest,” he said.
Saturday’s elections across Lagos State were generally characterized by low voter turnout, with many polling units recording sparse activity.
