The local government elections currently underway across Lagos State’s 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs feature 15 out of 28 registered political parties. However, the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) is notably absent from the race.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

NNPP’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Ogini Olaposi, described the development as “deeply unfortunate and regrettable,” attributing the party’s non-participation to internal crises and administrative setbacks.

According to Olaposi, despite securing favorable court rulings, the party was unable to mobilize effectively due to unresolved leadership disputes—mainly involving a faction loyal to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

“These internal wranglings stalled our preparations,” he explained, accusing the Kwankwaso-led group of trying to hijack the party’s leadership, which further destabilized the NNPP’s campaign efforts.

Olaposi also criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for failing to update its records to reflect the current leadership of the party under Dr. Agbo Major, complicating their electoral participation further.

As a result, the NNPP, founded in 2001 by Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, was unable to field any candidates—marking a first in the party’s history.

Despite the setback, Olaposi noted that the party remains hopeful and has instructed its Lagos chapter, led by State Chairperson Mrs. Anikè Adebowale, to support another party that shares NNPP’s ideals. However, he stopped short of naming the preferred party.

He concluded by stressing that participating in elections requires more than just presenting candidates: “You must be ready to campaign vigorously across all wards, which we weren’t in a position to do.”
