Moshood Kashimawo Olawale, popularly known as MKO, emerged victorious in the 1993 general election under the Social Democratic Party (SDP) banner, only for the results to be annulled by General Ibrahim Babangida.
Subsequently, Abiola was arrested and imprisoned during General Sani Abacha’s reign, and his wife Kudirat was tragically assassinated on June 4, 1996.
The harrowing tale continued as Abiola passed away in detention on July 7, 1998, just one month after General Abacha’s demise.
