Senate Engages In Intensive Screening Of Tinubu’s Electoral Commissioner Nominees

The ten nominees are undergoing a rigorous evaluation by the upper legislative chamber, and if their appointments are approved, they will be assigned to different states to fulfill their core responsibilities.
During the proceedings, Senate Leader Michael Bamidele Opeyemi presented the list of nominees and emphasized the importance of adhering to the provisions outlined in Section 154(1) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended.
Opeyemi stated, “The Senate is tasked with considering Mr. President’s request for the confirmation of the following individuals as Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs).
We must deliberate on the request made by the President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria regarding the appointment of the following individuals.”
The nominees currently undergoing scrutiny, who made themselves available for the process on Wednesday, include:
- Mr. Etekamba Umoren – Akwa Ibom
- Mr. Isah Shaka Ehimeakne – Edo
- Barr. Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola – Ekiti
- Mr. Abubakar Ahmed Ma’ali – Gombe
- Mr. Shehu Wahab – Kwara
- Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindem – Lagos
- Mr. Aminu Kasimi Idris – Nasarawa
- Mohammed Abubakar Sadiq – Niger
- Dr. Anugbum Onuoha – Rivers
- Mr. Abubakar Fawa Dambo – Zamfara
Following the screening process, these nominees are expected to receive approval from the Committee of the whole.
