In an exclusive interview with the BBC, Akpoti-Uduaghan—who was recently suspended from the Senate for alleged “gross misconduct”—also accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexually harassing her during a visit to his country home.
“I am being victimized. My suspension is a way to silence me,” she declared, referring to her March 6, 2025, suspension, which stemmed from a dispute over seating arrangements with Akpabio.
Recounting her allegations of sexual harassment, the senator described an unsettling encounter at Akpabio’s residence.
“It happened moment after moment while we were at his country home. He was showing me around while my husband followed behind. At one point, he held my hand and squeezed it in a suggestive manner. We women understand what that means,” she stated.
She further claimed that Akpabio made inappropriate remarks, including a comment about her missing wedding ring.
“He said, ‘Oh Natasha, you are not wearing your ring—is this an invitation to treat?’ Statements like this were inappropriate,” she recalled.
Senate Deputy Chief Whip Denies Allegations
Reacting to her claims, Senate Deputy Chief Whip Onyekachi Nwaebonyi dismissed the accusations, asserting that at no point did Akpabio make sexual advances toward Akpoti-Uduaghan.
He also refuted allegations that the Senate was deliberately trying to suppress her voice.
“Senator Natasha’s legislative activities contradict this claim,” he argued, stating that her presence and participation in Senate affairs did not indicate any form of retaliation.
