Maeba accused Wike of making false claims against Odili, a man he has long referred to as a father, simply to pursue his own political agenda.
In an interview with Arise TV on Thursday, Maeba denounced the narrative that Wike had built a house for Odili, clarifying that Wike had actually urged Odili to move from the house he had lived in for 30 years into a new residence.
“We need to restore decorum in our politics. On Sunday, December 29th, we witnessed the former governor in a church making deeply offensive remarks about Governor Odili, a man old enough to be his father, whom he has always called his father,” Maeba remarked.
He further criticized Wike for taking cheap shots against Odili, noting that it was unseemly for a man in Wike’s position—former governor and current FCT Minister with a national honor—to engage in such low blows. “The comments made in the church were completely unfounded and wrong,” he added.
Maeba also called on the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) to prevent politicians from using church pulpits for settling political scores. “Churches should not allow their altars to be used for political agendas. The church should have intervened to stop him,” he concluded.
