In addition to the aforementioned suspects, three others, namely Akinwunmi Ifatosin, Sherifff Agbai, and Osojieahen Alioneitouria, hailing from Uromi in Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State, were also taken into custody for their involvement in the heinous crime.
The State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, disclosed that the arrested individuals constitute a dangerous criminal gang engaged not only in ritualistic killings but also in the illicit trade of human body parts on a large scale.
The investigation unfolded when the Onipanu Divisional headquarters of the Nigeria Police in Atan-Ota received a report on January 9, 2024, about the disappearance of Sulaimon Adijat. Adijat had been lured on a date by Adebayo Olawale Azeez, who is currently evading arrest.
Adijat, a security guard at Canaan Land, Sango Ota, received a call after work, informing her family that she was going to Atan in Ota. Subsequently, a specialized team from the Anti Kidnapping Unit of the Command conducted a technical-based investigation, leading to the apprehension of the seven suspects involved in the abduction and subsequent murder of Sulaimon Adijat.
The investigation revealed that the criminal activities dated back to November 19, 2023, when Sherifff Agbai and Osojieahen Alioneitouria approached Oluwo Samuel Monday to perform a money ritual known as ‘Oshole,’ promising a lucrative return of Two Hundred Million naira within seven days. Oluwo Samuel Monday agreed to prepare the necessary materials for the ritual and charged the duo Eight Hundred Thousand naira.
Further involvement in the conspiracy included Peter Oluwalolese, identified as an acclaimed prophet of a white garment church in Ibadan, who enlisted the services of another colleague, Prophet Jamiu Yusuf, notorious for supplying human body parts for ritual purposes.
Prophet Jamiu Yusuf then contacted Abidemi Moses, a herbalist in Atan Ota, Ogun State, and negotiated a fee of Six Hundred Thousand naira to procure a suitable female victim for the money ritual. Oluwo Samuel Monday negotiated a fee of Three Hundred Thousand naira for the required body parts.
The heinous act took place on January 9, 2024, when Adebayo Olawale Azeez invited Sulaiman Adijat on a date to Sunshine Hotel in Atan Ota. She was subsequently taken to Abidemi Moses’ shrine at Igbo Olomi, where she was killed by Abidemi Moses and other accomplices. The dismembered body parts were transported to Oluwo Samuel Monday and Prophet Peter Oluwalolese, who awaited the gruesome delivery.
The investigation uncovered additional details, including the burning of the victim’s body parts in a local pot and the killing of a ram to appease the spirit of the deceased during the money ritual. The suspects collected the money ritual elements on January 10, 2024, and returned to their location in Edo State.
The case took a turn when the money ritual failed to yield the promised Two Hundred Million naira within the stipulated seven days. A subsequent search of Abidemi Moses’ shrine on February 3, 2024, resulted in the recovery of incriminating evidence, including human body parts, handbags, an axe, and cement sacks containing human bones.
Relatives of the deceased positively identified one of the recovered handbags as belonging to Sulaimon Adijat. All arrested suspects confessed to their roles in the crime, and investigations are ongoing to apprehend other fugitives. The case will be charged to court upon the completion of the investigation.
