The Rivers State Chairman of the All People’s Party (APP), Sunny Wokekoro, has strongly criticized the actions of the Martins Amaewhule-led House of Assembly towards Governor Siminalayi Fubara.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Wokekoro dismissed claims that Governor Fubara should have presented the 2025 budget at the House complex instead of the legislative quarters, calling such arguments illogical. Speaking in an interview with News Central on Thursday, he pointed out that the lawmakers had been conducting all their proceedings from the legislative quarters.

He noted that the same legislative quarters, where the House issued a 48-hour ultimatum for Fubara to submit the budget, had been used to pass bills and mandate the governor to sign them.

“The Assembly quarters they are referring to is the same place where lawmakers have been operating for months, passing bills and even compelling the governor to sign them. It was from this same location they issued the 48-hour directive for him to present the budget. The governor, in response, requested a certified copy of the Supreme Court judgment to clarify the legitimacy of their demands,” Wokekoro stated.

He further explained that after obtaining the Supreme Court ruling, Governor Fubara wrote to the lawmakers, inviting them for discussions as stakeholders of the state. However, the lawmakers refused to honor the invitation.

“When they argued that the invitation came from the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) instead of the governor himself, Fubara overlooked the issue and personally wrote to them, requesting to present the budget as directed. That document is available on social media for everyone to see.

“But when the governor arrived at the designated venue, he found the gates locked. Meanwhile, certain individuals were attempting to twist the narrative to justify the lawmakers’ actions, which clearly showed bias.”

Wokekoro lamented that the ongoing political tension is harming Rivers State. He noted that while Governor Fubara had been waiting for the Supreme Court to determine the status of the lawmakers, the ruling ultimately upheld their membership. Acknowledging this, Fubara decided to comply with the court’s decision.

“This is about Rivers State, and it is the people who are suffering,” he concluded.
