In a statement titled ‘Certificates: the blackmailers are at it again,’ the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Ebenezer Adeniyan, refuted the accusations as baseless and a deliberate attempt to divert the governor’s focus. Adeniyan asserted that the claims were both false and mischievous, emphasizing the governor’s dedication to his responsibilities.

Highlighting the alleged political motive behind the accusations, Adeniyan revealed, “Our attention has been drawn to the mischievous plans by some political actors to embark on fresh unsubstantiated allegations against the Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa. After failing woefully with their attempts to paint the governor in bad light with the stories around the death of the former Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, these desperate elements have resorted to blackmail.”

The Chief Press Secretary disclosed that a governorship aspirant orchestrated a meeting where directives were given to individuals to fabricate stories accusing the governor of using forged certificates to contest elections.

Adeniyan emphasized that Aiyedatiwa’s credentials were submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the last governorship election, and they are publicly available. He reaffirmed the governor’s commitment to fulfilling his promises for the development of Ondo State, asserting that Aiyedatiwa would not be swayed by the actions of opportunistic politicians.

Governor Aiyedatiwa, who assumed office following Akeredolu’s demise, has pledged to continue and complete the projects initiated by his predecessor across the state. Akeredolu had formally transferred power to Aiyedatiwa through a letter to the state House of Assembly on December 13, 2023, before embarking on medical leave in Germany.
