The Ogun State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the arrest on Thursday.
Joshua was discharged late Wednesday night from Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, Lagos, after doctors declared him clinically fit to continue his recovery at home.
The accident occurred on Monday along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway when the Lexus SUV carrying Joshua and his team collided with a stationary truck.
Two of Joshua’s close associates—Kevin Latif Ayodele, his personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, his strength and conditioning coach—lost their lives in the crash.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) had earlier reported that five adult males were involved in the accident: two were killed, one was injured, and two others escaped unhurt.
According to the FRSC, preliminary investigations suggest the crash was caused by excessive speed and wrongful overtaking, which are among the leading causes of fatal accidents on Nigerian highways.
Confirming the development on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, Babaseyi stated: “The driver of the Lexus SUV is currently in custody in connection with the Anthony Joshua accident case. Investigations are ongoing.”
