Sh*ck At Court! Police Break Silence On The Real Reason Behind Sowore’s Arrest

The Nigeria Police Force has explained that the arrest of the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, was carried out to uphold fairness in the prosecution of individuals involved in the #FreeNnamdiKanu protest held in Abuja on Monday.

Sowore was taken into custody on Thursday at the Federal High Court in Abuja shortly after attending a session in solidarity with the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, stated that Sowore led protesters into a restricted area during the demonstration and was therefore arrested to ensure equal treatment under the law.

Hundeyin emphasized that Sowore’s detention would not exceed the lawful duration, adding that he would be charged to court the same day.

In his words, “If we proceed to charge some of the protesters to court but exempt the person who led them into the restricted area — their leader, the elite protester — that would be unfair.

“So, in the spirit of justice and fairness, Omoyele Sowore was arrested today. Like others, he won’t be held for long — not up to 24 hours. Once the charges are finalized, he’ll be prosecuted. Our plan, if all goes as expected, is to ensure his arraignment in court today.”
