Sh*ck Exit: Aiyedatiwa’s Top Aide Resigns Over ‘Lopsided’ Appointments In Ondo

Bode Obanla, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Community Engagement (North) to Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has tendered his resignation barely a day after the governor swore in 16 new commissioners—intensifying speculation about internal unrest within the state’s political circles.

In a resignation letter dated July 16 and addressed to the governor, Obanla cited his desire to concentrate on personal business ventures as the reason for stepping down.

Obanla thanked Governor Aiyedatiwa for the opportunity to serve and emphasized that his decision to resign was entirely voluntary.

“I have returned all government property in my possession, particularly the Hilux vehicle attached to my office, to the government through the SSA on Community Engagement (Central),” he wrote. “I deeply appreciate the chance to serve our state, which has enriched my public service experience.”

He also urged the administration to act on the recommendations he had made concerning developmental priorities in the Northern Senatorial District, expressing hope that they would shape future projects in the region.

Despite the formal tone of his resignation, sources close to the former aide suggest deeper grievances. According to insiders, Obanla’s exit was triggered by dissatisfaction with Aiyedatiwa’s approach to governance—particularly his alleged tendency to appoint officials without consulting party leaders or grassroots representatives.

One source told Vanguard, “There’s growing frustration. Many stakeholders feel ignored. The governor is making decisions in isolation, and those who toiled during the elections now feel sidelined.”

The resignation has reportedly stirred tension within the ranks of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo, with warnings that more notable defections or resignations may follow if the administration’s style doesn’t change.
