The resignation was conveyed in a letter dated December 29, 2025, addressed to the Ward Chairman of Ampang West Ward in Mangu Local Government Area of the state.
In the letter, the governor said his decision was driven by the need to provide focused leadership, ensure clarity of direction and enhance service delivery. He stated that the resignation takes immediate effect.
The letter, which was acknowledged by the ward leadership the following day, expressed gratitude to the PDP for giving him the platform to serve within Nigeria’s democratic system.
Mutfwang also thanked party leaders and supporters for their support over the years, noting that prevailing political realities informed his decision to leave the party.
“Considering the realities of the moment, and guided by my commitment to purposeful leadership, clarity of direction and effective service delivery, I find it necessary to seek an alternative political platform,” the governor said.
Following his resignation, Mutfwang is expected to formally join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
It will be recalled that the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, had recently announced that the Plateau governor had aligned with the ruling party.
