Sh*ck In Kano! EFCC Nabs 25 BUK Students In Explosive Internet Fraud Raid

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 25 students of Bayero University Kano (BUK) over alleged involvement in internet fraud. The suspects were apprehended during a sting operation conducted on Monday in Kano State.

This was confirmed by the EFCC’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, in a statement issued Wednesday from Abuja. He stated that all those arrested are undergraduates of BUK.

According to the commission, the operation was carried out following weeks of surveillance triggered by actionable intelligence linking the students to cybercrime activities. The suspects were nabbed near the university’s new site.

“The arrest was a result of credible intelligence on their alleged involvement in cyber-related fraud. All individuals arrested are verified students of BUK,” Oyewale noted.

During the raid, EFCC operatives recovered several items believed to have been used for fraudulent online schemes. These included mobile phones, laptops, internet routers, and a Honda Accord vehicle.

Oyewale explained that the operation was part of the agency’s broader effort to clamp down on the rising incidence of cybercrime among youths.

He also added that investigations are ongoing, and the suspects would face prosecution once inquiries are completed.

“The suspects will be formally charged in court after investigations are concluded,” he said.

The EFCC used the opportunity to reaffirm its resolve in fighting cybercrime and warned Nigerian youths, especially students, against engaging in internet fraud and similar illegal activities.
