Sh*ck Twist: Police React As Court Halts Enforcement Of Tinted Glass Permit Nationwide

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has clarified that it has not yet been officially served with the Federal High Court order restraining it from enforcing tinted-glass permits.

Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, stated this on Saturday following reports that the court had stopped the arrest and prosecution of motorists over tinted windows.

On Friday, the Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State, ordered the police to suspend enforcement of the tinted-glass permit scheme pending the determination of a substantive suit.

In case No. FHC/WR/CS/103/2025, John Aikpokpo-Martins v. Inspector-General of Police & Nigeria Police Force, the court directed the police to maintain the status quo until judgment is delivered, effectively putting enforcement on hold.

Reacting via , Hundeyin insisted the police had not been formally served with the ruling.

“While we have not been officially served the court order you’re referencing, let me, in the meantime, highlight point number eight (of the same order), since you left that part out and focused only on point number six. Nigerians deserve the full picture, not a skewed one,” he wrote.

His clarification came after human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, circulated excerpts of the ruling that restrained the police from carrying out enforcement.

The tinted-glass permit policy has long been controversial. The police had suspended enforcement in 2022 but later reintroduced it in April 2023 under the Police Specialised Services Automation Project (POSSAP).
