Sh*cking Start! Flying Eagles Stumble Against Ghana In WAFU-B U-20 Clash

The highly anticipated clash between Nigeria’s Flying Eagles and Ghana’s Black Satellites at the Prampram Centre in Accra ended in a 1-1 stalemate, living up to its billing as one of the standout fixtures of the WAFU-B U-20 Championship.

Ghana started on the front foot, dominating possession and setting the tempo in the first half. Their early pressure was rewarded in the 22nd minute when captain Aziz Misbau unleashed a powerful shot from the edge of the box to give the hosts the lead.

Nigeria appeared out of sync during the opening half, struggling to build any momentum. However, a rejuvenated Flying Eagles side emerged after the break, showing more intent and pushing higher up the pitch under the guidance of head coach Aliyu Zubairu.

Their persistence paid off in the 80th minute. A pinpoint corner found Abdullahi Muhammad, who rose above the Ghanaian defence to head home the equaliser and quiet the home crowd.

The final minutes were filled with frantic end-to-end action as both teams chased a winner, but neither could deliver the decisive blow. The result leaves both teams with a point each as they open their Group B campaigns.

The Flying Eagles will be back in action on Sunday, July 13, when they take on the Benin Republic. A victory in that fixture would put them on the brink of qualification for the knockout stage, as they aim to defend the title they won in 2023.
