During a resumed coroner’s inquest on Friday, Dr. Sanni Ayodele Daniel, a certified pathologist, presented the autopsy report, stating that Whitney’s death resulted from asphyxia induced by electrocution.
Dr. Daniel ruled out any underlying health condition or drug-related cause, asserting, “The cause of death is consistent with electrocution.” He cited medical evidence, including cerebral edema, subpleural petechial hemorrhages, electric burn marks on her right knee, kidney shock indicators, fluid blood, bilateral conjunctival petechiae, and abrasions on her right forearm, all pointing clearly to a fatal electric shock.
Whitney collapsed on February 9, 2023, during Chrisland School’s inter-house sports event at Agege Stadium. Her death raised serious questions and led to a full investigation after her family voiced concerns over the circumstances.
Legal representatives present at the hearing included Oluwatodimu Ige, Obiechina Justin, and Oluwabusayomi Gbadegesin for the deceased’s family; Araba, Esq. from the Lagos State Attorney General’s Office; and Abimbola Ojenike and Oluwadamilola Omotosho, Esq. from the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).
Notably absent, despite being formally served court notices, were representatives of Chrisland Schools and Ademoye Adewale, the vendor allegedly involved in the incident. Their absence sparked disapproval from lawyers and members of the public present.
The presiding magistrate adjourned the matter to August 8, 2025, for the continuation of cross-examination.
