Sh*ckwaves In Lagos! PDP Chieftain Defects To Labour Party Amid Rising Tensions
Olalekan Anjolaiya, a former Lagos State House of Assembly candidate for Alimosho Constituency II, has officially announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement issued on Wednesday, May 7, Anjolaiya revealed his defection to the Labour Party (LP), citing what he described as the PDP’s “eroding ideological integrity” as a key reason for his move.
Anjolaiya didn’t hold back in his criticism of the PDP, accusing the main opposition party of suffering from “structural weaknesses” and a “disturbing closeness” to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Previously a member of the PDP’s Local Government Executive in Alimosho, where he played a significant role in the party’s rebranding, Anjolaiya expressed disappointment in what he sees as the party’s ideological drift and failure to act as a strong opposition force.
“The PDP has ceased to be a genuine opposition party. It has lost its ideological grounding, moral direction, and independent voice. It now behaves more like a subsidiary of the APC than a people-focused alternative,” he stated.
Reaffirming his roots, Anjolaiya declared: “As a proud Awori son of Igando, Alimosho, I believe the era of political bullying and ethnic politics in Lagos is coming to an end. The people are ready for a new dawn of inclusive, issue-based leadership.”
