Speaking in an interview with The Washington Post, Sani described claims of “Christian genocide” in Nigeria as misleading, asserting that the nation will ultimately overcome terrorism despite ongoing obstacles.
He accused those promoting such narratives of being “anarchists and propagandists” who manipulate Nigeria’s realities for political or ideological gain.
“Trump’s perspective on Nigeria and its leadership has been shaped by people who thrive on division and disorder. They highlight insecurity while ignoring the courage and resilience of Nigerians who confront terrorism daily,” Sani said.
A former lawmaker in the 8th National Assembly and a noted human rights advocate, Sani acknowledged that Nigeria continues to face threats from insurgents and bandits. However, he emphasised that security agencies and citizens remain united in their commitment to restoring peace and stability.
“Nigeria will defeat terrorism. It may take time and sacrifice, but our people refuse to surrender to fear. Our diversity and democracy remain stronger than the hate and violence of extremists,” he said.
Sani also called on the international community, including the United States, to avoid biased reports and instead provide support through intelligence sharing, humanitarian aid, and fair diplomacy.
He further stressed that combating terrorism requires both military action and social reform, highlighting the importance of addressing poverty, unemployment, and corruption to achieve lasting peace.
Finally, Sani warned against the “weaponization of misinformation” against African nations, arguing that such tactics undermine democracy and fuel instability.
