In his remarks on Tuesday, the Vice President described Senator Ubah as “the youngest member of the 9th Senate and one of its brightest stars,” noting that his age belied his political acumen and deep grassroots connections. “His bridge-building capacity propelled his political journey beyond that of older, more established figures, and he was on a path to even greater achievements when the Lord called him home,” Shettima said.

Reflecting on his personal experiences with Ubah during his tenure as Governor of Borno State, Shettima highlighted the late senator’s boundless generosity and his ability to break down political and ethnic barriers. “His free spirit knew no limits,” he added.

The Vice President also expressed his condolences to Ubah’s family, friends, and associates, reminding everyone that “death is an inevitable part of our journey,” and that “we are all travelers on our way from God, to God.”

Earlier, Senate President Godswill Akpabio noted that the session had been set aside to honor Ubah’s life and legacy, with Senators observing a moment of reflection as his seat was draped in the Nigerian flag and surrounded by four symbolic candles. Akpabio described Ubah, a businessman from Otolo, Nnewi North in Anambra State, as a visionary leader with deep empathy for others and a champion of economic empowerment and community development.

The Senate President further lamented that Ubah’s untimely death has left a significant gap in Nigeria’s political landscape, one that will be hard to fill. Senators then took turns to offer their tributes, praying for strength and comfort for Ubah’s family in their time of grief.
