Shettima made these comments on Saturday during his role as the Special Guest of Honour at the wedding ceremony of four daughters of the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Dr. Abubakar Ibn Umar Garba Al Amin El-Kanemi, in Maiduguri, Borno State.
He stated, “To show solidarity with the governor, we must avoid following the bandits and idiots orchestrating mischief from abroad—Australia, Finland, and the United States—who are influencing social media.”
Shettima further criticized the protest organizers, saying, “Their agenda resembles the turmoil seen in Syria and Libya. What they seek is chaos similar to what has happened in Khartoum, Damascus, and Tripoli. Nigerians should not align with these anarchists and saboteurs.”
He urged Nigerians to reject the planned nationwide protests set to begin on August 1, 2024, emphasizing the need for unity and focused development. Shettima argued that protests are not solutions but rather avenues for destruction.
He appealed for non-violence, stating, “Development cannot occur without peace; peace cannot exist without development. I urge our youth to avoid the path of anarchy and destruction.”
Shettima expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s commitment to addressing the nation’s challenges and improving the economy and social welfare. He emphasized the importance of unity and support for local leadership in Borno.
The Vice President reassured that the Tinubu administration is dedicated to significantly enhancing the welfare of Nigerians and overcoming current difficulties.
