During a U.S.-Nigeria executive business roundtable organized by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Nisha Biswal, representing the American International Development Finance Corporation, announced a $200 million investment in mortgage refinancing for Nigeria. Additionally, $100 million was designated for FCMB to finance small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and another $20 million was allocated to Robust International to boost Nigeria’s cashew nut processing industry.
Shettima, who represented President Tinubu, emphasized that Nigeria is now a prime destination for foreign investment, welcoming international businesses to explore opportunities in the country. He urged investors to trust in the government’s commitment to economic reform, citing key policy changes like the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of Nigeria’s multiple foreign exchange markets.
Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima’s spokesman, also quoted Biswal, who confirmed the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s dedication to supporting Nigeria’s development of sustainable economic policies. She expressed optimism about the future of Nigeria-U.S. business relations and their mutual benefits.
In his address, Shettima said, “I encourage you to give Nigeria the benefit of the doubt. The Tinubu administration has prioritized creating a favorable business environment for investors, making it the most investor-friendly government in Nigeria’s history.”
The Nigerian delegation to the event included several high-profile ministers and officials, such as the Ministers of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani; Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye; Innovation, Science, and Technology, Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji; Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate; Industry, Trade, and Investment, Doris Nkiruka Uzoka-Anite; Solid Mineral Development, Dele Alake; and Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, among others.
Throughout UNGA79, Vice President Shettima will represent Nigeria in engagements with global leaders, including the UN Secretary-General, heads of state, the President of the World Trade Organization, and prominent organizations like the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. He will also deliver President Tinubu’s national address during the General Debate.
