Essiet shared that these eight demands reflect the common feedback she received during her visits to five of the six states, excluding the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The key items include calls for constitutional recognition of traditional rulers, the establishment of state police, and the transfer of responsibility for local government elections to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

On her X handle, Essiet outlined the demands on Monday, stating:

– “The lack of constitutional roles for traditional rulers must be addressed.”
– “State and local government allocations, as well as other federal incentives, should be made public to ensure accountability and transparency.”
– “There is an urgent need for the establishment of state police for more effective community policing.”
– “INEC should take over the conduct of local government elections, now that local governments have full autonomy with direct fund allocations.”
– “The Price Control Marketing Board should be reinstated to prevent marketers from monopolizing commodity prices.”
– “Retirees should be included in the federal government’s minimum wage proposal, and senior citizens must be considered in welfare plans.”
– “Citizens should be properly sensitized about new policies before their implementation.”
– “The federal government should adopt digital methods for monitoring the distribution of palliatives.”

These demands, according to Essiet, represent the collective concerns of North Central citizens for improved governance and development.
