Originally planned for the Wells Carlton Hotel in Asokoro, the event was abruptly relocated after the hotel cancelled at the last minute, citing an “internal compliance issue.”
Despite the unexpected venue change, the event witnessed an impressive turnout. Among the top political figures in attendance were former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. The gathering marked the ADC’s formal declaration as the leading platform for a proposed grand opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.
Also present were former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, ex-Senate President David Mark, Senator Ireti Kingibe, former Sports Minister Solomon Dalung, media personality Dele Momodu, former Imo Deputy Speaker Emeka Ihedioha, and ex-Benue Governor Gabriel Suswam.
Former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, now serving as ADC’s interim national secretary, hosted the gathering. Former Sokoto Governor Aminu Tambuwal was also in attendance, signaling a broad regional alignment in support of the coalition.
Leaders from multiple opposition parties—including the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and Social Democratic Party (SDP)—are reportedly in advanced talks to unite under the ADC platform.
Earlier, Dele Momodu posted a screenshot of the cancellation notice from Wells Carlton Hotel, which attributed the last-minute withdrawal to regulatory concerns.
