His comments come amid swirling speculation that he may follow in the footsteps of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno, who have reportedly defected to the ruling APC.

However, Muftwang dismissed such insinuations, stating:
“There’s absolutely no truth in it. I have never even considered leaving the PDP. The party gave me the opportunity to serve as governor, and I remain fully committed to it.”

Reacting humorously to the defection rumours, the governor said a friend sent him a newspaper article about the alleged move, to which he replied:
“There’s no law stopping a hunter from chasing wild game. Apparently, they see something promising in us, which is why they’re eager to have us.”

His firm denial comes at a time when the PDP is grappling with internal tensions following a spate of defections, raising concerns over party unity ahead of the 2027 elections.

Governor Muftwang’s stance is expected to provide some reassurance to PDP supporters in Plateau State and the broader North-Central zone, where the party continues to enjoy considerable grassroots backing.
