The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered a thorough investigation into the tragic death of 14-year-old secondary school student, Kehinde Alade, in Oyo State. In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP strongly condemned the incident and confirmed that the officer responsible has been taken into custody.
“The Inspector-General of Police has condemned the unfortunate incident and assured that the officer involved has been apprehended. A full investigation is now underway. The process will be conducted transparently and its findings made public to ensure that justice is served,” Adejobi stated, while also expressing deep condolences to the family of the deceased student.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its dedication to safeguarding lives and property, and urged the public to remain law-abiding and seek redress through peaceful and legal channels.
In a separate development, Adejobi revealed that the IGP also denounced an unprovoked attack on police officers on Monday, May 20, 2025, in the Okhuimwun Community of Ovia North-East LGA, Edo State.
He explained that operatives from the Force Intelligence Department – Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT), traveling from Lagos through Edo State, were attacked by a mob who blocked the road near the University of Benin (UNIBEN). The group assaulted the officers with stones, sticks, and other harmful weapons, injuring two personnel.
Despite the life-threatening attack, the officers refrained from using force, Adejobi noted. The injured officers are currently receiving medical treatment and are in stable condition.
The police warned against any form of violence or aggression against its officers, emphasizing that investigations have commenced and all those responsible will face legal consequences.
