Elected to the position on June 16, 2023, during the inauguration of the 8th Assembly, Oligbi-Edeko cited the PDP’s new minority status in the House as her primary reason for resigning.
During the plenary session on Monday, she explained that her resignation was a move to promote justice, fairness, and equity among all constituencies. She expressed gratitude to the PDP leadership and members for the opportunity to serve.
Her announcement was met with accolades from fellow lawmakers, who commended her dedication, integrity, and service-oriented leadership, noting her positive contributions to the Assembly’s legislative progress.
In the wake of her resignation, Osamwonyi Atu, an APC lawmaker representing Orhionmwon East, was unanimously elected as the new Deputy Speaker.
A motion to ensure that Atu receives all entitlements due to the office was moved by Majority Leader Jonathan Aigbokhan (APC-Esan West), seconded by Minority Leader Charity Airobarueghian (PDP-Ovia North East I), and unanimously adopted by the House.
