The Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has dismissed the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, challenging the election of Governor Monday Okpebholo.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The petitioners had contended that the election was invalid due to non-compliance with the Electoral Act and alleged over-voting. However, the tribunal, referencing established Supreme Court rulings, affirmed that although substantial non-compliance was proven, the responsibility to provide evidence remained solely with the petitioners (PDP, Ighodalo) and could not be transferred to the respondents (Okpebholo, APC).
Furthermore, the tribunal rejected the claim that Okpebholo was not duly elected, as the petitioners failed to present convincing evidence to support the allegation.
The tribunal also ruled that the petitioners’ failure to call polling unit agents regarding the INEC forms submitted weakened their case, describing it as merely dumping documents on the tribunal without adequate corroboration.
