Burkina Faso’s President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, has rejected the notion that democracy is crucial for national progress, arguing that no nation has advanced solely through democratic governance.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

During a flag-raising ceremony at the Koulouba Palace, Traoré emphasized that Burkina Faso is undergoing a “popular, progressive revolution,” rather than following democratic principles. He contended that democracy is simply a result of development, not the catalyst for it, and stressed that his country must undergo a revolutionary transformation to secure its future.

“We are not in a democracy, we are in a popular, progressive revolution,” he declared. “We must undergo a revolution. The debate around democracy or the freedom of action and expression has no place. While everyone is free to speak and act, this freedom can lead to societal disorder.”

Traoré insisted that no country has achieved real development through democracy alone, claiming, “It is impossible to name a country that has developed through democracy. Democracy is only the outcome.”

Since taking power in a 2022 coup that removed interim President Paul-Henri Damiba, Traoré has garnered attention for his unorthodox policies and leadership. His government places a strong emphasis on self-reliance and national transformation, with a focus on revolutionary change rather than adopting Western-style democratic systems.

Among his controversial actions, Traoré rejected an offer from Saudi Arabia to build 200 mosques in Burkina Faso, instead encouraging the Gulf nation to invest in infrastructure projects that would directly benefit the people.

Traoré has committed to continuously engaging with the public to explain the goals and necessity of the revolution, reinforcing his vision for a new governance model in Burkina Faso.
