The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is set to hold its first meeting of the year on Wednesday, amid escalating tensions over the National Secretary position.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The dispute centers on Sunday Ude-Okoye and Senator Sam Anyanwu, both staking claims to the role.

The controversy follows a Court of Appeal ruling in Enugu affirming Ude-Okoye’s nomination by the PDP’s South East Zone as a replacement for Anyanwu, who resigned to contest the Imo State governorship election.

After losing the governorship race, Anyanwu is attempting to reclaim his former position, asserting that his resignation was conditional and did not render the office permanently vacant. He argues that his resignation was tied exclusively to his gubernatorial ambitions and maintains his claim to the post.

In contrast, Ude-Okoye insists that his nomination and the appellate court’s decision confirm his legitimacy as the National Secretary. Reports suggest he has garnered significant support from NWC and Board of Trustees (BoT) members, potentially setting the stage for a showdown at the upcoming meeting.

In a dramatic twist, Anyanwu resumed work at the PDP’s national secretariat in Abuja on Monday, citing legal grounds for his actions. He referenced a pending Supreme Court appeal and an application for a stay of execution on the appellate court’s judgment.

“Filing a stay of execution effectively suspends the judgment’s enforcement until the case is resolved,” Anyanwu argued, warning against actions that could jeopardize the party’s unity.

This power struggle has deepened divisions within the PDP, with both factions rallying support from key party figures. The NWC meeting on Wednesday is expected to tackle the issue as the party faces internal challenges that threaten its preparations for future political contests.
